Mixed Nuts

A Poem by Paul Dallgas-Frey

Paul Dallgas-Frey

Walnuts keep thumping off our house.

“It sounds like bodies
bouncing off the roof,”
said one of our older sons,
one stormy autumn night.

That was enough for our ten-year-old,
who has seen one too many
scary movies.

And so he crawled into bed with us -

with a hammer in his hand!
