Old Dudes

(Genesis 5)

Back in the days...

...of Adam and Eve, people lived a long, LONG time.

If your grandpa lives to be a hundred years old these days, you think, "Boy - he is really OLD!" Adam lived until he was 930 years old! Yikes! - that's a lot of candles to blow out on a birthday cake!

So after Abel died and Cain had to leave home, Adam and Eve had another son named Seth. When Seth was born, Adam was 130 years old. When Seth called Adam his "old man," he wasn't kidding!

When Seth was 105, he had a son named Enosh. Enosh was Adam's grandson.

When Enosh was 90 he had a son named Kenan. Kenan was Adam's great grandson.

Adam's great great great great great grandson was a man named Enoch. Adam lived so long, even when Enoch was born, Enoch's great great great great great grandfather Adam was still around! When Great Great Great Great Great Grandpa Adam told stories about the old days - they were REALLY old days.

Imagine sitting by the fire with Enoch while Grandpa Adam told stories from when the world was brand new!

Enoch loved God and always listened to him, and the Bible says that he never died. Instead, God just took him up to be with him in heaven. One day people looked around, and said, "Hey! Where did Enoch go?!"

"Heaven knows!" people must have replied - and they were right!

But before that Enoch had a son named Methuselah. You might hear someone say sometime, "He's as old as Methuselah!" That's because Methuselah was the oldest man who ever lived. He lived until he was 969 years old.

People lived a LONG time back in those days.

Until something terrible happened.
